1. Timber Timbre - Timber Timbre
Jos vuoden 2008 yllättäjä oli Bon Iver esikoisellaan, niin tänä vuonna saman tempun teki kanadalainen Timber Timbre. Hienoja biisejä, 60-lukuista tuotantoa ja karua tunnelmaa. Helposti vuoden eniten kuuntelemani levy.
2. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Tukholman keikka paljasti, että Grizzly Bearin ukot ovat rautaisia ammattilaisia, mutta jos sen pystyy unohtamaan, on Veckatimest valovuosia parempi levy kuin edeltäjänsä Yellow House. Jälleen kerran yksi näitä "Beach Boys 2000-luvulla" -juttuja.
3. Sister Flo - AU
Mitä tähän voi sanoa? Vertaukset Kid A:han tai Talk Talkin loppupään levyihin antavat suuntaa, mutta eivät tee oikeutta tälle levylle. Huikea ja rohkea irtiotto, joka kestää kuuntelua ja tutkiskelua. Tämän levyn kautta löysin monta omaa vanhaa suosikkia kuten esimerkiksi For Carnationin uudelleen.
4. Pixies - Minotaur
Kun oman maailman tärkein bändi kautta aikojen julkaisee 400 euron hintaisen boxin, jossa ei edes ole ainuttakaan ennenjulkaisematonta biisiä, on se vaan pakko hankkia. Aiemmin en omistanut Pixiesin levyjä cd:inä, dvd:inä tai Bluraynä, mutta nyt näköjään omistan. 15 kiloa silkkaa omistamisen iloa ilman järjen häivää.
5. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle
Vuosien takainen Smog-diggailu heräsi uudelleen henkiin tämän levyn myötä. Eid Ma Clack Shaw on ehkä kuitenkin vuoden hienoin yksittäinen biisi.
6. V/A - Dark Was The Night
Oi jospa kaikki hyväntekeväisyyslevyt tehtäisiin samalla pieteetillä ja huolella kuin tämä. Koko amerikkalaisen indierockin tämänhetkinen kuningaskaarti Nationalista Bon Iverin kautta Arcade Fireen eksklusiivisilla biiseillä.
7. Majeure - Timespan
Koska vuonna 2009 ei julkaistu uutta kokopitkää levyä Zombilta, on listaan valittava rumpali A.E.Paterran sooloprojekti, joka on just ihan sitä samaa futuristista scifi-soundtrackia kuin pääbändikin. Mahtava paketti pelkästään tuplavinyylillä ja mukana latauskoodi.
8. Fever Ray - Fever Ray
Hieman samoilla linjoilla edellisen kanssa. Kun Knife ei kerran julkaissut uutta materiaalia tänä vuonna, pitää listalle laittaa vokalisti Karin Dreijerin mahtava Fever Ray. Ei ihan Knifen veroista tykitystä, mutta viimeistään Flow:n keikka sekoitti pään lopullisesti.
9. Joose Keskitalo - Tule Minun Luokseni Kulta
Joose ei petä. Vihdoin pitkäaikainen keikkasuosikki Pimeydestä Pimeyttä Vastaan myös kotikuuntelussa.
10. 90-luvun nostalgia
Huomaan hankkineeni pienen ajan sisällä takaisin hyllyyni hyvin monia niitä levyjä, joita 90-luvulla tuli kuunneltua Tortoisesta Lambchoppiin ja Afghan Whigsistä Superdragiin.

- Kauan tätä sai odottaa, mutta tuli se lopultakin ulos. Levy yhdistää rohkeasti niin monta outoa elementtiä säilyttäen silti helposti lähestyttävän tunnelman.
2. Bon Iver - Blood Bank
- Viime vuonna Bon Iveriltä tuli vuoden paras levy, tänä vuonna paras EP. Eihän tämä jätkä ole tehnyt yhtään huonoa biisiä. En minä ole ainakaan kuullut. ps. folkki taitaa olla uusi musta. Sillä ei voi mennä pieleen.
3. Ramona Falls - Intuit
- Menomenan edellinen albumi oli tosi hyvä, mutta kyllä tämä senkin päihittää. Vähän folkimpi versio Menomenasta.
4. Low Frequency In Stereo - Futuro
- Kuulostaa vähän siltä kuin Stereolab tai Broadcast olisi laittanut menotossut jalkaan. Lisäplussaa krautahtavista rummuista.
5. Real Estate - Fake Blues
- Pyörivä liike, leijuva tunnelma, kiireettömyys. Vuoden paras biisi, toivottavasti koko levy paljastuu myös vuoden parhaaksi.
6. Baroness - Blue Album
- On kurvia ja on lorvia, mutta rytinällä tullaan. Vuoden kovin kova.
7. Hidden Cameras - Origin: Orphan
- Mielihyväalbumi 2009
8. Balmorhea - All Is Wild, All Is Silent
- Todella hyväntuulista post rockia. Pitää kuunnella kovalla!

You really can't make a Top-10 list of 2009 without Merriweather Post Pavillion. Groundbreaking but traditional, huge but intimate, poppy but experimental. Arguably the best work Animal Collective has put out so far. Love the freaky artwork too.
3. Maserati/Zombi - Split (12")
R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs (1974-2009), who played drums on Maserati as well as The Juan Maclean (among many others).
4. Sébastien Tellier - Kilometer (12")
The original is throwaway trash, but the remixes by A-Trak, Aeroplane and Arpanet are true gems.
5. Oneida - Rated O (3LP)
A colossal three LP odyssey by Brooklyn's psych-kraut outfit Oneida.
6. Nightsatan - Steel Diamond (7")

7. Power Point Boys' Mixtapes
An array of mixtapes from this Finnish DJ-duo full of dirty disco dancebility. The Manly Affair Mix is my personal favourite.
8. MONO - Hymn To The Immortal Wind (2LP)
The biggest, although not the baddest, MONO album is the culmination of instrumental post-rock as a genre. It is going to be all downhill from now on.
9. Eluvium - Life Through Bombardment (7LP)
Eluvium's career as a drone-minimalist compiled in to one whopping seven-LP-strong package.
10. Attack Attack! - Sticky Stickly (music video)
The most hilarious music video on YouTube. I've watched it a thousand times and it still keeps getting better and better. Crabcore 4 Life!

- Lee Douglas dj set @ Blanko 26.9. The night a disco dj saved my life. Hugely influential, most fun ever.
- The Revenge/6th Borough Project - the whole output. This was The Revenge's year, along with the whole uprising of the soulful British re-edit/remix scene: Eddie C, KRL, Floating Points, OOFT etc.
- Todd Terje's edits. The king of disco edits keeps on trucking in a free world.
- Aeroplane remixes. Massive year for this italo-tinged Belgian duo. Amazing quality just keep on from one remix to another.
- House of House - Rushing to Paradise (song). Biggest, most soulful house song of the year, period.
- DFA string of 12". The hipster friendly label still going very, very strong. From Walter Jones's I'll Keep on Loving You to Shit Robot's Simple Things, the DFA definitely infiltrated the discos around the world with 12" goodness.
- Regina - Puutarhatrilogia. Classic and you know it.
- OG Ikonen - Mieron tiellä. The Finnish rap album released early this year that set the standards way up in terms of mic presence and technique.
- Tensnake - In The End (I Want You To Cry) EP. This German producer had a fine year in terms of remixes too, but this 3 song EP won the pick. His hugely awaited next song is promised to feature on Tim Sweeney's newfound label.
- Beats in Space radio show, 10 years in running, most essential. Big shout outs to Mestarisoundi, One Day Later Radio & Music People and all the rest dope radio shows.
